Just how different are mirrorless system cameras from your average high-end compact or superzoom camera? We test three such cameras out.
There has been a lot of hype surrounding mirrorless system cameras over the past year since the introduction of Micro Four Thirds cameras by Olympus and Panasonic.
Not to be left out, Sony too has stepped into the game with their own new mirrorless NEX camera series.
But just how different are these cameras from your average high-end compact or superzoom camera?
For one thing, the mirrorless system cameras have the advantage of being more portable than the average DSLR and have the option of switching between a wide variety of lenses.
Other distinct advantages the cameras have over the average compact camera is that they have larger sensors that allow them to capture more detailed pictures and perform better under low light conditions.
But are these cameras really all that good? In this issue, we test three models: The Olympus E-PL1, Panasonic GF1 and Sony NEX 5 to see just how well each of them performs in terms of photo and video quality.
