KUALA LUMPUR: Online payment company PayPal and MOL AccessPortal Bhd (MOL) have joined forces to offer Malaysians MOL PayPal - The Digital Card, which is a prepaid card.
The card enables Malaysians to top up a PayPal account, to shop online, and to reload MOLPoints with which to buy online games - all without the need for a credit card.
"It offers Malaysians a faster and safer way to shop online via PayPal," said Melanie Tan, vice-president of strategy and business development at PayPal Asia Pacific.
With the prepaid card, users do not need to enter their financial information every time they purchase an item online. They need to click on the PayPal button, key in their e-mail address and password, and then confirm their purchases.
About 500,000 Malaysians have PayPal accounts but only close to 100,000 of them are active.
The Digital Card retails for RM15. Users can top up the card in denominations of RM60, RM100 or RM200 at any MOL outlet nationwide, as well as at 7-Eleven stores, Friendster cybercafes, and EON Bank branches.
The card, which is issued by EON Bank, can either be purchased in any of the 1,100 7-Eleven stores around the country, or online at PayPal-Mol.com.
Card holders will get a RM15 rebate for their first transaction of at least RM150 with their PayPal account. This offer is valid until Aug 31.
The Digital Card will be available here from July 19. - SUBASHINI SELVARATNAM
