BRIGHT FUTURE: Philips Malaysia country marketing manager Linda Lam showing off the Cielo pendant lamp.
PHILIPS unveiled its 2012 line-up for its LED-based home lighting systems, and they come in all shapes and sizes.
From classic looking chandeliers to slim night lamps, they are meant to allow owners to create their own identity for every space in their house, according to the company.
LED, which stands for light emitting diode, are tiny semiconductors encapsulated in plastic which protects the components and helps focus the light.
They generally cost more but have several advantages over standard incandescent light bulbs. For instance, they are easier on the eyes, very energy efficient, and environmental friendly because they don't contain harmful substance such as lead or mercury.
LED lights also last longer and have a typical lifespan of up to 25,000 hours and based on an average use of 2.5 hours per day, they can last up to 25 years. Incandescent bulbs, on the other hand, have a standard lifespan of 18 months.
The Cielo pendant, Ledino Bar Spot and LED myVision lamps are the highlights in the company's line-up.
The Cielo pendant looks ordinary at first but on closer inspection inside you will see no visible light sources. This is because the LED bulbs are actually embedded in between the outer and inner layers.
The Bar Spot, on the other hand, is designed for energy saving and uses 80% less energy compared to a standard bulb.
The myVision lamp not only looks like a traditional frosted light bulb but also fits into a standard bulb socket, making it easy for home owners to upgrade.
Users have a choice of 6-watt and 9-watt lamps which are priced at RM64 and RM80 respectively.
The Cielo retails for RM2,499 and the Bar Spot for RM1,499.
