PETALING JAYA: IBM has introduced a new range of computers that herald a simpler era in computing.
Its expert integrated systems family - PureSystems - is the result of US$2bil (RM6bil) in R&D and acquisitions over four years that integrates all IT elements, both physical and virtual.
IBM Malaysia general manager for systems & technology group Hemanth Kumar Kalikiri said PureSystems' scale-in design and built-in expertise represent an important advance in the evolution of computing.
"With it, clients can free up time and money to focus on innovation that many businesses cannot address due to ever-rising costs and staffing needs," he said.
The PureSystems family's scale-in design integrates server, storage and networking into a highly automated, simple-to-manage machine.
With the design, PureSystems can handle twice as many applications, doubling the computing power per sq ft of datacentre space, he said.
IBM also embedded "patterns of expertise" using software technology and industry expertise to automatically handle basic, time-consuming tasks, such as configuration, upgrades, and application requirements.
By combining operational know-how and expertise into the system to automate IT and industry tasks, time and resources needed for basic and complex tasks are also reduced.
All PureSystems products are built for the cloud, enabling corporations to quickly create private, self-service cloud offerings that can scale up and down.
The company also introduced two new Linux-specific servers: IBM PureFlex System which is part of PureSystems and IBM PowerLinux, a standalone high-performance, energy-efficient system.
IBM PowerLinux offers deep integration of new Linux-specific Power7 processor-based hardware with industry-standard Linux software from Red Hat and SUSE for analysing big data, managing industry-specific applications, and delivering open-source infrastructure services.
