More Xperia on the way

Xperia go

Sony announced a couple of new Xperia smartphones, namely the Xperia go and acro S, which, apart from being Android smartphones, are also water resistant.

The Xperia go features an IP67 rating, which means it's dustproof and can be dunked in water up to 1m deep for 30 minutes.

It has a 1GHz dual-core processor, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system upgradeable to 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), 3.5in Reality Display, 5-megapixel camera which is ready to use in just over a second, and a scratch resistant mineral glass screen with wet finger tracking,

Meanwhile, the Xperia acro S has a slightly lower IP55/IP57 rating which means it's not as dust or waterproof as the Xperia go, although it should take a washing or quick dunk in water just as well.

On the hardware front, it is more powerful and comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.3in 720p HD Reality Display and a 12-megapixel digital camera which is ready to use in just over a second and can record video in full HD (1080p). It also has a 720p front facing camera and a scratch resistant mineral glass screen with wet finger tracking.

The smartphones are expected to start shipping after September and the prices have yet to be announced.
