Maxis dips its toes into IPTV

Maxis Bhd is set to introduce its IPTV service to customers of its Home Fibre Internet service sometime next month.

The service, which includes free-to-air channels as well as video-on-demand, is the result of an agreement between Maxis and 14 content providers including LI TV International Ltd, Radio Televisyen Malaysia, All Asia Multimedia Networks FZ-LLC, Media Prima Bhd and Red Bull GmbH, amongst others.

According to Mark Dioguardi, joint chief operating officer of Maxis, the IPTV service will roll out in July to some 1.2 million homes which are currently installed with the company's Home Fibre Internet service.

The company also plans to widen its coverage to its mobile and wireless broadband subscribers at a later date.

Amongst the features that will be available are catch-up TV services from Tonton, Live TV time-shifting and PVR (personal video recorder) functionality for recording shows.

Prices for IPTV packages will only be revealed closer to the launch date. - TAN KIT HOONG
