Prepaid plan for the smartphone user

NEW PLAN: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd head of prepaid product marketing Ting Shiew Han (left) and Praveen fielding questions on the new DG Prepaid Smart Plan at the company's offices in Shah Alam recently.

DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd has introduced its DG Prepaid Smart Plan which is tailored for prepaid users who already have a smartphone, as it comes with data as part of the package.

Available as an RM25 starter pack, the zero-commitment plan comes with 100MB of data usage and other freebies which DiGi says is worth RM45.

Top up denominations come in RM10, RM30, RM50 and RM100. An RM10 top-up comes preloaded with 100MB of data, 30 minutes of talk time, 30 SMSes and 30 MMSes.

DiGi says the plan has no call or SMS tariffs or hidden charges, and the user can accumulate data quota up to 2GB, voice calls up to 300 minutes, SMS up to 300 messages, and MMS up to 200.

If a user finishes the quota for any part of the plan, they can still use the other parts that have not reached their quotas - for example, if you finish your voice quota, you can still continue using data for surfing.

According to Praveen Rajan, head of Internet and services in DiGi, the number of smartphone users on the DiGi network have risen from 15% in the first quarter of 2011 to 22% in the same quarter this year and the new prepaid plan is meant to cater to this ever-growing segment of users.

Unfortunately, while existing customers can just buy a starter pack and use the new plan, there is no option for porting over their existing prepaid plan phone numbers over to the new one. - TAN KIT HOONG
