KUALA LUMPUR: In line with the rapidly growing demand for flexible and cost-effective data storage solutions, NetApp is advocating its Agile Data Infrastructure philosophy and suite of products.
The storage and data management company, in collaboration with its partners, is introducing a new way for customers to fundamentally architect and manage their data storage infrastructure differently to be more agile.
"In today's environment, the scale, complexity and pace in which businesses are operating require a new way of thinking to enable them to compete," said NetApp country manager for Malaysia and Brunei, Andy Khoo.
NetApp spends about US$500mil (RM1.5bil) a year on research and development, and the latest release of NetApp Data ONTAP, its storage operating system, offers rich data management and protection with the architectural advantages of clustering.
Products under the Agile Data Infrastructure banner are aimed at enabling IT to better respond to changing business requirements, maintain non-disruptive operations, and grow the business without limits.
The improved offerings are based on a unified architecture catering to many diverse workloads, to allow flexibility to deal with changes in storage requirements.
"Data has become the single largest business challenge of any organisation today," said NetApp Asean managing director Scott Morris.
Morris said that with the growth of data at a compound annual rate of almost 60%, many companies are hitting an inflection point where data becomes either a propellant to the business or a burden to IT infrastructure.
It has been a good year for NetApp, with the company reporting 48.8% year-on-year (YOY) growth in 2011 and a current market share of 14.7%, behind rivals EMC and IBM.
Top industry verticals for the company include the public sector, manufacturing and oil and gas. Malaysia performed better than the Asean region overall, in which NetApp holds a total market share of 13.4% with a YOY growth of 39.3% recorded.
Khoo credits this growth to both the exploding demand for innovative solutions to data management, along with its strengthened network of partners and resellers which has grown from eight to 14.
"It's not a case of adding more partners and thus having them fight over the same pie. The pie is growing and we see sales growth from all partners with none of the detrimental impact that one might expect," he added.
As part of its continued commitment to the market, the company also recently established a permanent office in Mont Kiara, with a demo centre for customers and partners.
NetApp intends to continue its growth pattern via expanding its footprint into sectors such as telecommunications and financial services, in addition to beefing up its portfolio of cloud-based solutions.
