The much-awaited Samsung 4G Chromebook is here. Unlike a standard notebook, this device is designed to be used with an always-on Internet connection as it stores applications and data on the Web.
The device, which is powered by Google's Chrome OS, is available from YTL Communications which is bundling it with its Yes 4G service.
Users will be able to even make voice calls and send text messages from the Chromebook using the Yes broadband plan.
The Yes network now covers 85% of peninsular Malaysia, said Wing K. Lee, YTL Communications chief executive officer. Lee said YTL plans to expand to East Malaysia by the end of the year.
As the apps aren't stored on the Chromebook itself, it has a very slim form factor - it is only 17.5mm thick and weighs just 1.1kg.
It has a fast start up time of eight seconds and has a rated battery life of up to 6.5 hours, said Caesar Sengupta, Google's director of product management.
The Chromebook can be purchased from Yes stores or its online portal for RM988 if the user signs up for the Yes 88 pospaid plan with a 24-month contract. The plan which costs RM88 a month comes with 3.5GB of data usage.
The device itself retails for RM1,299.
